When we started our Room of the Month feature, we had no idea how popular it would become. So it’s time to pivot. Room of the Month is now Rooms We Love! Also, if y’all have any suggestions for a better name, we welcome it! The plan is to post more frequently the rooms and spaces that inspire us brought to you by our fellow sisi sisters. After all, as a community it’s nice to get a little tip, trick, or just simple joy from our awesome tribe of women. For our first official Rooms We Love we’re highlighting Emi from @house_of_7feathers. She’s an avid DIYer and home decor addict who loves the rustic modern look.

I had been struggling with decorating the space by my staircase for a long time. I painted this wall three times, and I have changed decor many many times. Despite the trials, I have never been satisfied with what it looked like.

Then….

I painted the wall black and finally it felt like I was getting close to my vision of the space but.. something was still missing. I had a dark leather chair creating a little reading nook, but I wanted to add more warmth and character.

I looked for a furniture piece for this space, but I could not find the perfect one. So I decided to make one on my own. I used reclaimed wood for the top of the bench and made the legs with new wood. The bench fit the space perfectly. By the way, the art on the wall is old and new mixed. Some of them are antique and some are from print shops.
