rooms we love:@veryberryhome

We live in a 1960's custom ranch home that was very much of its genre when we purchased it 25 years ago! The half acre property consisted of 90% green gravel and 10% ugly palm trees. Honestly, the gardens are some of what we are the most proud of; second only to the kitchen!

The former kitchen was very small and had a fun curved banquette that was packed with our five children and their friends as they grew up here! So full of happy memories, but we always wanted it to be a bit bigger and more beautiful! I LOVE creating beauty, being in the midst of beauty, and believe that to create beauty in this world is a joy, an honor, and a calling for everyone, really! Anyway, great design is something I have loved and appreciated my whole life. I collected home, garden, and design magazines from the time I was about 12 years old, and just never stopped! I had files and files of ripped out images from my teen years until Pinterest came around, haha! So my mental process was decades in the making and our home and gardens my canvas, I suppose.

Anyway, we wanted to avoid costly and tragic mistakes and so we hired a good architect, as we were reconfiguring spaces adjacent to the kitchen as well. We knew we wanted to capture some of our living room space to expand the kitchen footprint and at the same time make our oversized living room more cozy! A top priority to me was to have a European style eat-in kitchen with a large table in the center; and a somewhat unfitted look to facilitate the collected aesthetic that we love. We also hired a designer and a wonderful cabinet company who all contributed to the layout and design process. I will link their IGs at the bottom. I knew the elements and materials I wanted and just needed design support pulling it all together; WELL worth the investment by the way! If you are going to do a big remodel, get professional wisdom and input every time! The whole project took a year and we were living in our small guest cottage, which was a huge blessing because we were involved in every detail of the process, including staining the floor tiles one by one!

Our cabinets are inset and sort of DeVol inspired, our counters are honed marble, the flooring tiles are hand-stained Saltillos, the ceiling is stained wood planks, our chandelier and sconces are all antique, the stove niche wall is venitian plastered and I LOVE it!! The funky vintage piece that hosts our tea station is thrifted and wonderfully imperfect! I love mixing real furniture in with cabinetry.

We did not want to skimp on appliances and have zero regrets about that decision! We adore our LaCanche range and appreciate its beauty every day!
