kate bought a house

I bought my first house and to say I’m excited is an understatement! I haven’t received the keys yet, (There are renters in the house who are moving out at the end of the month), but it doesn’t mean I haven’t started planning the renovation! A’ la I’m pulling lots of inspiration images.

And by the way, when I say renovation… I mean it. The house is a 1961 original without any of the 1960s charm. The kitchen and bath have to be gutted, and the living area is miserably dark and dreary. You may be asking, “Kate, why did you buy the place?” Well, there’s an easy answer. I could afford it! So with the help of my mom, we’re going to roll up our sleeves and turn the dark and dreary into my home sweet home. FYI, the process should be a hoot since together we’ll be the contractor, painter, designer, and all around DIYers. Fortunately, I have a professional plumber in the budget!

So while I wait to get into the house, I’m dreaming of what will be! I’m inspired by my mom’s design since she always finds creative solves that are usually inexpensive. In fact, we climbed into her attic to look at some old rugs that she is not using. I loved them; therefore, they are the springboard for my new home’s design. We’re talking sage greens, rich browns, and touches of warm reddy oranges.

I’m really, really, really looking forward to this new adventure, and I’d love for you all to take this journey with me. I know there will be moments of celebration, and other times where I’ll need a little encouragement. So…. here we go! Here’s to home, happiness… and blessed new beginnings.
