winter skin essentials

This post is a full on teamwork challenge. Katy (mom) and I, who are both living up in the Sierra compared notes on our must have winter skincare items. Ironically, we had a lot of the same items on our list even though we have a 24 year age difference. Now we are aware that not everyone is experiencing the same harsh climate during these chilly months. Florida ladies-- enjoy! But for many of us, Old Man Winter is not so kind. The culprit is the cold temperatures along with the low humidity, which seems to suck the moisture right out of the skin.

Yep, wintertime does not discriminate by age. In fact, I struggle more with chapping than my mom at 54. It’s just my plight. If you can really call it that.

All the products that we use are affordable and easy to purchase. In fact, some are definitely tried and true brands. We’re covering body lotion, facial cleanser (which can sometimes strip your skin’s natural oils), trouble spots, and lips which are frequently overlooked.

Hope my list is helpful. I figure if it’s helpful to a 30 and 54 year old, well… this stuff works!

cerave daily moisturizing lotion

Cerave was on both our lists as the go to lotion. It absorbs quickly into the skin while still hydrating. Seriously… the flaking just goes away, which makes us give it a two thumbs way up.

clinique take the day off cleansing balm

Again, we were both huge fans of this product, and during the winter we use it in the evenings. It’s non-greasy, non-drying and after using it consistently gives our skin a nice glow.

langeine lip mask

Hands down, this is Katy’s favorite go-to item. She used to struggle with chapped lips throughout the winter months, but now she uses this lip mask every night right before bed and swears to its moisturizing effects. One more note: She prefers the Berry over Grapefruit.

aquaphor

This is my absolute must have. I like to use Aquaphor on my hands at night because they have the tendency to crack. Plus, it’s great to use right below your nose if you have a winter cold. For me, It gets rid of the chapping literally overnight.
