wallpaper confessions

Let’s talk wallpaper. My first confession...I have a few years of living under my belt, and I’ve seen interior design trends come and go. Yes, I vividly remember hanging duck wallpaper border in my boy’s room probably 28 years ago and thinking, “Dang, that looks fabulous!.” Oh yes, the wallpaper border! It was all the rage in the early 90’s and has now got to the interior design graveyard to die.

My second confession…when wallpaper fell out of design favor, I missed it. The bold patterns, the vivid colors…wallpaper has a way of capturing a home’s personality and the people who lived there.

So… when Kate and I tackled the design plan for her first home, we knew that wallpaper was definitely going to be a part of the look. I love Serena Lily’s patterns and shared them with Kate. The problem was the price tag which didn’t correlate to her first home budget. However, she fell in love with the Feather pattern and… the color that worked perfectly within her home palette was on sale. Boom!!!! The perfect find.

Then she wanted one more pattern that was complementary to Feather and paid homage to Tahoe. Afterall, she’s creating her Tahome! So Kate combed through Rifle Paper Co. (Her favorite wallpaper company) and discovered Juniper Forest.

But the biggest perk… the patterns look like her! We’re waiting on the Rifle Paper delivery, then we’re rolling up our sleeves and hanging the paper (which should be comical). Honestly, even though the process is challenging, I can’t wait because with the last roll of wallpaper paste, her new little home will instantly feel like her!
